These are the days when the body just doesn’t want to cooperate, and conditions like achy muscles and fatigue suddenly arise. Even if you wanted to go for a hike or embark on activities like swimming or basketball, you can’t really do so if your muscles are aching and you feel weak. Sometimes, you don’t even understand why you become so tired all of a sudden.

The first step to finding relief from muscle pain and unexplained fatigue is by understanding why these conditions arise. From there, it would be easy to move forward and go for corrective measures.

One of the more important things to understand about achy muscles and fatigue is that these are not diseases per se. They are merely symptoms that can arise from a variety of health problems, and it’s often a case-to-case basis when we try to look for the root cause. The US National Library of Medicine points to many factors that can cause fatigue. Here are some of them:

  • Sleep disorders
  • Grief or depression (as well as related medication like sedatives and antidepressants)
  • Underactive or overactive thyroid gland
  • Anemia
  • Illnesses like malnutrition, anorexia (and other eating disorders), diabetes, congestive heart failure, and kidney disease

Understanding Muscle Aches

While these factors and many others can cause a sudden lack of energy even after resting, muscle aches are another story altogether. Usually, achy muscles arise from tension and overuse, as well as muscle injuries related to physical activities and work. However, the National Institutes of Health point to other causes that people don’t normally think of.

Sometimes, it’s a matter of electrolyte imbalances (too little of calcium or potassium). At other times, it could be because of certain drugs that you’re taking. For instance, ACE inhibitors for lower blood pressure or statins for lowering cholesterol. It might even be because of certain infections like influenza, malaria, polio or Lyme disease.

Finding Relief From Achy Muscles and Fatigue

Needless to say, finding relief from achy muscles and fatigue is important, especially when it gets in the way of the activities you want to do. It starts with understanding why you’re so tired or why you’re experiencing muscle aches in the first place. Once you know that, you can proceed with corrective action. Sometimes all it takes is some rest. But as this article from the New York Times states, there are also some cases when psychotherapy and exercise therapy are needed.

In cases when achy muscles and fatigue are symptoms of underlying conditions, then maybe those conditions need to be addressed. Sometimes rest is not enough. You might need the aid of certain health supplements that can boost your cellular health. When you go for something as fundamental as cellular health and making changes from deep inside your system, then these problems can be better addressed and relief will be easy to find.
