A Simple Guide to Liver Care and Cleansing

Strength24_A Simple Guide to Liver Care and CleansingThe liver is easily the second most important organ in our bodies – the first, of course, is the brain. As a part of the digestive system, the liver’s primary function is detoxification, but the liver also handles other necessary processes such as protein synthesis, the production of hormones, and more. There are many possible causes of liver damage such as the consumption of fatty foods, pesticides, and hormones, as well as things such as stress and the toxic chemicals we come into contact with every day. Obviously, there are many aspects of life specific to our modern society that may result in the need for additional liver care.

Some signs that your lifestyle may be negatively affecting your liver include:

  • The use of drugs, whether prescribed or over-the-counter.
  • Frequent consumption of alcohol.
  • The use of tobacco products, such as cigarettes and chewing tobacco.
  • A history of high fat levels in your liver.
  • Exposure to environmental toxins or chemicals.
  • Exposure to second-hand smoke.
  • A history of liver or gallbladder problems.

Liver Care and Cleansing

Fortunately, there are nearly as many solutions to liver cleansing as there are potential threats. Here are just a few natural solutions for liver care and cleansing:

Dandelion Root

A favorite among detox fans, dandelion root works to improve the flow of bile in the liver. This improved flow works against many conditions and ailments, such as hepatitis, gallstones, bile duct inflammation, jaundice caused by liver illness, and more.

The gallbladder holds the bile that is used by our bodies in the process of digestion. By increasing the flow and production of bile, dandelion root improves the health of both the liver and the gallbladder and enhancing the health of our overall bodies. A high amount of choline in dandelion root may also be responsible for some of its beneficial effects on the liver.

Milk Thistle

One of the most ancient and beloved solutions for liver care and body detoxification, the milk thistle is one of the most effective ways to naturally counteract the damages to the liver causes by unwanted and excessive chemicals.

Many people have used milk thistle to combat the effects of drugs such as alcohol and acetaminophen. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient in pain killers such as Tylenol and Paracetamol. Used in excess, acetaminophen can cause severe liver damage.

Milk thistle has also been successfully used to help fight against diabetes. It is one of the most popular herbal remedies for a reason – it’s powerful, safe, and natural.

Since many of the problems associated with liver damage can be traced directly back to diet, it should come as no surprise that a healthy change in the foods we eat can greatly help us in the search for assistance with liver care and detoxification.

There are many things we consume on a daily basis which can be harmful to our livers – some of which seem very benign. Caffeine, for example, is the most commonly used stimulant drug in the world. Most of us drink it in our coffee every morning, if not several times a day. Unfortunately, caffeine has been shown to have less than favorable effects on our livers. While it is not as detrimental as alcohol or tobacco, caffeine intake should be limited.

Foods high in vitamins and minerals and low in saturated fats and sugars are always the a good choice. Aside from providing us with more sustainable energy, they also help to keep our livers in top working condition. A diet high in fruits, vegetables, and grains is the best way to go.

As always, you should consult with your doctor if you are experiencing any unusual problems. By opting for a healthy diet and looking in to natural liver care and detoxification solutions, you can help maintain the health of your body in between check-ups.
